So this page keeps three things apart on purpose. What has already shipped is dated. What is coming is listed only where the lab itself has said it in public, with the source named. Everything else sits under “What to watch” and is my own read of their shipping pattern — informed guessing, not news. If a date matters to you, check the lab's own page linked above.

A French lab that built its reputation on permissive open-weight releases, and now runs a paid flagship alongside them.
It is the most practically useful European option, and its free consumer app comes with a small monthly API credit — unusual, and worth knowing about.

- September 2023Mistral 7B ships under Apache 2.0 and becomes the default small open-weight model.
- 2024–2025Le Chat launches, and the line splits into open-weight small models plus a paid Large flagship.
- 2026Mistral Large 3, Small 4, Devstral 2 and Pixtral form the current lineup.

What to watch
My own read of where this lab is heading, based on how it has shipped so far. Not announcements — treat these as questions to check, not facts.
- — Whether the flagship generation is ever released with open weights, as earlier Mistral flagships partly were.
- — Devstral's progress, since a permissively licensed coding agent has no real equivalent from the major labs.
- — EU regulatory positioning, which Mistral leans on as a differentiator more than on benchmarks.
